What is Document Freeze Drying?
The four-step process of Document freeze drying.
1) Your object must first be frozen solid. Document freezing or freezing your object solid locks your product structure firmly into position and ensures that the original shape of your object will be retained once the process is complete. After your object is frozen solid, it is placed then in a chamber that is connected to or contains a condenser in it.
2) In a condensing surface which is usually colder than a -40° C is used to attract vapors away from your frozen object or from your frozen book or magazine or documents. The condensing surface also protects your high-grade vacuum pump used in document freeze drying from water, fats and oils that may come from your object or your documents being freeze-dried.
3) Low absolute pressure is also required for a vacuum pump providing it. During the document freeze drying process of your documents, the vacuum pump is connected in series to the chamber and to the condenser, and it is turned on. A proper pressure is reached in the inside of the chamber; a vapor of moisture is also drawn out of your object or your document and collects onto the condenser itself.
4) Therefore, once most of the vapor of moisture is drawn out of your objects or from your document, heat is slowly applied to help remove any of the remaining vapors and to release bound water caused by water intrusion which is typically the most difficult type of moisture to remove from your object or document. Then a heat may be provided by any number of sources such as heat coils or light into it.
